Drive Your Own Team
Starts at 1030
Get booked in and shown around before you get started. Start your day with a sled dog tour commencing with an introduction to the world of sled dogs, the equipment and of course the dogs themselves. Learn how to set up your own team and interact with the dogs while you learn the ropes from one of our instructors. Then it is your turn to take the team for a spin, taking command of your own team of Huskies and driving them along the beautiful trails provided by the Snow Farm.
1200 - 1300
Once your sled dog tour is complete enjoy a buffet lunch in the comforts of the Snow Lodge overlooking the trail system.
After lunch it’s time to get you back on the trails but this time on a set of snow shoes. After getting fitted out you have until the mountain closes at 1600 to explore.
Save these memories for life.
Ski type clothing is perfect. Please ensure you wear layers so you can warm up or cool down as needed. A warm hat and gloves are essential. Hiking type boots are idea, something you can walk on snow in and not get wet if the day warms up a little. Bring a change of socks if you think your feet might get wet. A neck warmer / scarf is a great idea also. Bring your sun glasses as well.
We have taken thousands of people out on the self drive tour and its very straightforward if you listen to your guide. A majority of guests have never met a dog team before let alone driven one but they do awesome. We highly recommend you drive your own team. A guide will be in support throughout the tour.
This may be common practice overseas but we do not allow it here. This is due to the nature of the trails, it can be technical in places and should you flip or loose your sled then the passenger could easily get hurt. Our Guides are specially training to take guests in the baskets.
No we do not advise this. You do so at your own risk.
A basic level of fitness is required, the ability to walk up a hill in snow is adequate. Whilst the dogs do a majority of work there are some hills they do need help on. Our guides are there to support and will assist if you need it. Please consider that the tours operate at approximately 1500m (5000ft). This can make things a little more difficult then you would normally expect at sea level.
Its simple, just like walking, except now you can walk over deep snow with minimal effort.
