We have 2 Winter Guide Positions available for the 2020 season.  The winter Lead Guide position is taken.

 

Job Descriptions 

 

We operate a relatively small kennel however the operating tempo is high, when its not we make the most of the down time.  We are a family run operation, our dogs are our lifestyle.

Ideal candidates are hard working, proactive with good communication skills and a passion for animals and the outdoors.  Is flexible and has a casual demeanor about them. We will be living and working in close proximity for extended periods.

Winter Lead Guide

 

This is a full time seasonal position; mid June – mid September with possibility to extend.

Responsibilities:

  • Day to day care of dogs at the kennel and on the mountain before, during and after tours. Care includes watering, feeding, exercising, handling and any other duties that revolve around the day to day welfare of the animals.
  • Assist and be prepared to manage all aspects of the touring operation, this may include:
    • Coordinate and leading day to day operations.
    • Guiding
    • Briefing guests
    • Teaching
    • Providing safety on and off the trail
    • Running the front office
    • Administration
    • Working at the kennel facility off the mountain
    • Managing other Guides and maintaining communications with management
  • Lead tours ranging from short format trips (1 hour or less) to overnight or multi night excursions.
  • Oversee and perform all pre and post tour inspections including cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
  • Coordinate logistical support for all tours including catering, hauling and preparing equipment.
  • Operate a snow machine and groomer, to maintain trails and provide logistical support.
  • Support and oversee other tasks as they arise including:
    • Movie / TV support
    • Promotional events
    • Training events
  • Should winter conditions not be suitable be prepared to support the dry land touring operation or a combination of both.

 

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license (international licenses are acceptable as long as they are legally recognized) and confident to drive a right hand drive vehicle on the left side of the road.
  • Can drive a vehicle with trailer.
  • Must successfully pass pre employment drug screening.
  • Must hold a minimum of a St Johns Level 1 first Aid certificate and remain current for duration of employment.
  • Must have two seasons of previous sleddog guiding experience in the Northern Hemisphere or equivalent experience.
  • Can operate a skidoo and groomer.
  • Physically fit to work in adverse mountain conditions, for long periods conducting strenuous activities.
  • Successfully complete induction training conducted by UnderDog.
  • Pre Hospital Emergency Care and Avalanche Awareness qualifications may be required, these will be arranged and covered by UnderDog if necessary.

 

Additional Information:

  • This is a live in position; shared accommodation and some meals provided.
  • Six days a week and off day may shift to suit the operating tempo.
  • You will have the opportunity to explore the region and race a team in local recreational races.
  • We do not provide flights for overseas candidates, must have a valid work visa.
  • $21.50 per hour in support of touring operations, $20.00 per hour pre season, post season and during shut down periods.

  • Operate a snow machine and groomer, to maintain trails and provide logistical support.
  • Support other tasks as they arise including:
    • Movie / TV support
    • Promotional events

  • Should winter conditions not be suitable be prepared to support other areas of the operation as required.

  • No previous sled dog guiding experience required.
  • No previous experience required in operating a skidoo and groomer.
  • Physically fit to work in adverse mountain conditions, for long periods conducting strenuous activities.
  • Successfully complete induction training conducted by UnderDog.

  • Five to six days a week and off day may shift to suit the operating tempo.
  • We do not provide flights for overseas candidates, must have a valid work visa.
  • $19.00 per hour in support of touring operations, $18.00 per hour pre season, post season and during shut down periods.
