Meet the Team

We take pride in running a kennel where dog care comes first as does ensuring the dogs enjoy every aspect of what they do

We have over 70 dogs split between New Zealand and North America.  Our race team in north America are all Alaskan Huskies and our Touring dogs in New Zealand are a mixture of Alaskan Huskies, Siberian Huskies and a couple of Alaskan Malamutes.  When our North American race dogs retire they make the long trip to New Zealand to join the tours.

Arrow

Position – Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  May 2017– Togo, Minnesota

Arrow is from a breeding between Griz (Swedish) and Dent (Nelson) that produced a litter of 6.  This is her first season training and also one of the standouts.  She is tiny but this little dog is stacked full of attitude which she is learning to channel nicely.  Arrow like her sister Shield had shown potential to lead in the future.  Also like her sisters its evil!

Azlan

Position: Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Malamute
Born: 2008 – Nova Scotia, Canada

The name says it all,  this guy is a big lion.  He is our biggest Malamute and a beautiful red color.  Get him at the right time and he roars like one to.  Azlan generally doesn’t say much, a very smart dog that observes everything you do.  Like most Malamutes, this guy likes to be patted.  You can’t help but fall in love with this gentle big guy.  Azlan has been trained in agility and loves to show of all his tricks, weaving through poles, running around barrels and through tunnels.  In harness he is just as impressive and has also earned himself his American Sled Dog Excellence title.

Passed 13th December 2017: Another unexpected heartbreak, an Alaskan Malamute like no other.

Block

Position – Main Leader

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  2007 – Togo, Minnesota

Block is by far our most powerful dog.  Just a monster in harness who knows nothing less then giving it his all.  Block has been a key dog over the years but in the 2012 Iditarod he stood out running single lead for nearly 500miles bringing the team across the line in Nome.  Its hard to believe how far Block has come.  As a puppy he was shy, nowadays he is a very confident affectionate dog and guaranteed starter.

Race History:  White Oak Classic 2009, Wolftrack Classic 2009, UP 200 2010, Beargrease Mid Distance 2009, Beargrease Marathon 2010/2011, Red River 2010, Race to the Sky 2011, Copper Basin 300 2012/2013, Norther Lights 300 2016, Iditarod 2012/2013/2014/2015, Yukon Quest 2014

Bolt

Position – Main Leader

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  2007 – Togo, Minnesota

One of our first Alaskans, brother to Run and Trip and son to Ramp.  Just an outstanding litter of dogs.  Bolt is a special little guy, the smallest boy in the team but with one of the biggest hearts.  Bolt is a great leader and has been a key part of all of our races.  Bolt has started every race we have ever ran and never been dropped besides an incident with a snowmobile. He is a super lovable dog that can have a cocky streak in him that can drive you crazy.  Regardless of how difficult things get Bolt always has a happy attitude.

Race History:  White Oak Classic 2009/2010/2011, Wolftrack Classic 2009, UP 200 2010, Beargrease Mid Distance 2009, Beargrease Marathon 2010/2011, Red River 2010, Race to the Sky 2011, Tustumena 200 2013, Copper Basin 300 2012/2013, Iditarod 2012/2013/2014/2015, Yukon Quest 2014

Bow

Position – Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  May 2017– Togo, Minnesota

Bow is from a breeding between Griz (Swedish) and Dent (Nelson) that produced a litter of 6.  This is her first season training and this girl is tough.  She sustained a wrist injury early in the season and has since crashed miles on to catch up with her siblings. Bow has huge potential for next season. She is sweet but like her sisters it has an evil side and is learning manners.

Breaker

Position: Team Dog

Breed: Siberian Husky
Born: 15th May 2006 – New Zealand

Breaker is a lovely big Siberian Husky.  This guy is the friendliest dog around.  Loves his cuddles and the sweetest personality.  Breaker is a dog you just can help but love.  He is Racoons brother.

Race History: Recreational races throughout NZ

Media & Film: Petes Dragon 2016, Taylor Swift “Out of the Woods”, Canada Goose “Out There”, North Face

Brig

Position: Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  October 2015 – Togo, Minnesota

Brig was bred by Jamie Nelson.  This guy is a little shy but doesn’t take long to come around.  Brig has a bit more of a serious nature but once he gets to know you he lets his personality come out a little more.  He has a stunning glossy jet black coat which makes his light brown / yellow eyes stand out.  Much like a Panther, a very unique look.  He is one tough boy and is bound to have huge potential.  Very excited to work with Brig going forward, this dog will become something special.

Dagger

Position – Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  May 2017– Togo, Minnesota

Dagger is from a breeding between Griz (Swedish) and Dent (Nelson) that produced a litter of 6.  This is his first season training, Dagger is like a goofy puppy with his floppy ears and beautiful blue / brown coat.  It took him a little longer to find his feet but Dagger has settled in nicely and is looking like a strong prospect for the future.

Dickens

Position: Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born: 2007 – Togo, Minnesota

Well what can I say about this guy.  I would love to brag about what an awesome sled dog this guy is……but he isn’t.  But man does he look good!  There is no dog in our yard that can model a harness and other sled dog gear like this guy.  Dickens has never taken to long distance racing however will be a lot of fun on the tours.  He loves to run, is very very affectionate and no doubt will be the one everyone wants a photo taken with.  His race resume….well he doesn’t have one….did I say how good he looks!

Media & Film: Thor 3 “Ragnorak”, Canada goose “Out There”

Passed on 4th March 2018: Another dog there are no words to explain the heartbreak, one of our legends.

Dodge

Position: Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born: 2007 – Togo, Minnesota

A very old style Alaskan Husky with a lovey friendly nature about her.  Dodge is a strong girl with affectionate attitude.  She has raced throughout the lower 48 as well as run Iditarod and Yukon Quest.  All the dogs tend to get on with Dodge and she rarely does anything wrong, just a very well behaved, good mannered girl. Dodge came to NZ to join the tours in 2016.

Race History: White Oak Classic 2010/2011, Beargrease Marathon 2010, UP200 2010, Copper Basin 300 2012, Iditarod 2013/2014, Yukon Quest 2014

Passed 13th May 2018 – A beautiful girl who we lost so unexpectedly.

Dora

Position: Leader

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born: 2007 – Togo, Minnesota

Dora is one of those dogs that people tend to overlook.  She is small and very slender.  Not what a lot of people expect to see in a sled dog.  But if there is one thing we have learned, it is not to judge these dogs by their size or appearance.  This girl will be up there with the best of them.  Dora has led the team through deep snow, through stormy mountain passes, and terrain many dogs twice her size would struggle in.  She is a tough little girl that is a great leader and has run numerous races including Iditarod.  Dora can be a little shy at times but not when in harness.  A very cute little girl that has a very sweet side.

Race History: Beargrease Marathon 2010, Red River 2010, Iditarod 2012

Media & Film: Canada goose “Out There”

Doza

Position: Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born: 2010 – Devils Lake, North Dakota

Doza is one of our younger boys with a very happy affectionate attitude.  This floppy eared guy is super friendly.  Just try walking away from him while he wants cuddles and best you be prepared for him to grab your jacket or arm gently in his mouth to try and keep you there.  A great sled dog who has several distance races on his resume.  You can’t help but fall in love with Doza.

Race History: Tustumena 200 2013, Iditarod 2014/2015

Draeger

Position – Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  9th October 2015 – Willow, Alaska

A breeding between Skye (Mackey) x Kroc (King x Buser). Draeger is a second generation of our own breedings, like his brothers and sister they where slow starters but have turned into some of the strongest dogs in the team and have had a great 2018 training season. Draeger is the most social of his brothers, supper cuddly and lets you know when he wants it. We are excited about what this season will bring for him.

Dredd

Position – Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  May 2015 – Togo, Minnesota

Dredd was a dog we initial acquired to support TV & Film work in New Zealand.  However he turned out to be to good in harness to deny him from a racing career.  So Dredds big screen aspirations have been put on hold for now.  He has turned into a really nice sled dog and already shown leader potential.  Like all the others he is also a very affectionate dog.

Race History:  Nil

Sponsored by: Colin & Anthea Whitley, New Zealand

Eva

Position: Leader

Breed: Siberian Husky

Born: 18th January 2009 – New Zealand

Eva is sister to Libby, Sepp and Racoon.  She is another very sweet girl, she can go a little unnoticed at times because she just gets on with what she has to do.  Another dog you can’t help but love.

Race History: recreational races around NZ.

Media & Film: Canada Goose “Out There”, North Face, PolarSeal, BMW

Finn

Position – Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  9th October 2015 – Willow, Alaska

A breeding between Skye (Mackey) x Kroc (King x Buser). Finn is a second generation of our own breedings. Like his brothers and sister he had a slow start, but this season he has found his own.  As powerful as his brothers are Finn is the strongest, possibly the strongest dog in the team, but it comes with a catch, he is his own dog. Very affection but has to do it in his own way.  He can come across a little shy but turn your back on him and he is all over you.  Meet him on the roof of his house and it is cuddle time.  Another dog we are super excited about this season.

Fish

Position: Leader

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born: 2008 – Fairbanks, Alaska

Fish came from the kennel of Lance Mackey, the only 4 time Yukon Quest and Iditarod Champion.  Fish is one of our smaller boys who just moves beautifully in harness.  Seems to glide across the ground.  Fish is a pretty intense little guy with some funny quirky behaviors.  At the same time Fish loves nothing more then a belly rub.

Media & Film: Canada Goose “Out There”

Freebie

Position – Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  2007 – Alaska

Lance gave us this dog for free. He was refered to as the Freebie dog for the first few months and the name just stuck. He had some issues with his front feet and we rehabed him for a year before training and racing him in 2010/2011. Freebie performed great but at the end of the Beargrease Marathon his front leg swelled and he was diagnosed with a chip to one of his front leg bones. Freebies career was over.

At the start of the 2011/2012 season we had no plans to run Freebie and he was horrified to be left out. We decided to let Freebie decide what he could and couldn’t do and deservenly he made the team finishihg Iditarod 2012 strong.  Since then Freebie has been a key part of the team.

Freebie is a great charatcer, just a very happy go lucky dog that never lets things get to him. Just a real fun dog to be around and have in team.

Race History:  White Oak Classic 2011, Beargrease Marathon 2011, Copper Basin 300 2012/2013, Tustemina 200 2013, Iditarod 2012/2013/2014/2015

Grin

Position – Leader

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  2007 – Togo, Minnesota

This girl is all attitude, not shy to take charge and let other dogs know where they fit it.   Grin is a beautiful loving dog that has had some standout performances over the years.  The other dogs know where they stand with her and often Grin is the one put in to let younger dogs know what they can and can’t get away with.  When on fire she is one beautiful running dog. Grin is mother to Scout from a breeding with Bolt and also mother to Cinder from a breeding with Leap.

Race History: White Oak Classic 2009, Race to the Sky 2011, Beargrease Marathon 2010, Tustumena 200 2013, Copper Basin 300 2012/2013, Iditarod 2012/2015

Griz

Position – Main Leader

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  23 June 2013 – Sweden

Griz was not a planned addition to the two team but after we saw her run it was hard to turn her away.  She has an effortless gait and the attitude to make things happen.  Small but with heaps of punch behind her she has learnt to lead has become one of the key dogs up front.  She is also a super affectionate little girl.  Let her inside and you have a sweet little stalker.  Loves her cuddles.  We expect big things from grim upfront.

Race History:  Yukon Quest 2016

Sponsored by: The Clinch family, Australia

Gumbo

Position: Team Dog

Breed: Alaska Husky
Born: 2008 – Togo, Minnesota

Gumbo is another one of our larger boys. This guy can be a little shy at first, but that is all forgotten when he is put in harness and becomes a beast.  You will know when Gumbo is in your team as he will lunge into his harness and scream…. so best you hold on.  Take the time to get to know this guy and he will like nothing more then standing up at eye level and giving you gentle kisses on the chin.  A lovely big boy.  Gumbo has participated in Iditarod.

Passed 8th Nov 2013 – Our big gentle giant.  A powerhouse of a dog and a loving friend.

Hatchet

Position: Main Leader

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  2007 – Togo, Minnesota

One of the biggest boys in our race team and what makes Hatchet stand out is his stunning jet black coat.  This is one cool dude, very laid back personality but he knows when to turn it on and become one of the standout dogs.  In lead Hatchet is phenomenal and has been a main part of our front end for the last few years.  This guys has an awesome personality, very loving but also has a very stubborn streak where he will generally do it his way unless you can convince him otherwise, which sometimes comes with some resistance.

Race History:  White Oak Classic 2010/2011, UP 200 2010, Beargrease Marathon 2010/2011, Red River 2010, Race to the Sky 2011, Tustumena 200 2013, Copper Basin 300 2012/2013, Iditarod 2012/2013/2014/2015, Yukon Quest 2014

Hitch

Position – Leader / Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  2007 – Togo, Minnesota

This is one wild animal.  Hitch also know as “High Speed” is one high energy dog that does everything full on.  She is also a little mad and brings some serous attitude to the team.  She is always happy and comes in after every run squealing, wiggling around and throwing herself in the air and landing on the ground on her side.  It just can’t stay still.  When going forward she focuses that attitude and is a nice driving dog.  Hitch can also lead but her mischief side can get her into a little bit of trouble if left upfront to long.  A very cool happy dog.

Race History: White Oak Classic 2010, UP 200 2010, Beargrease Marathon 2010/2011, Red River 2010, Race to the Sky 2011, Tustumena 200 2013, Copper Basin 300 2012/2013, Iditarod 2012/2014/2015, Yukon Quest 2014

Hook

Position – Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  2007 – Togo, Minnesota

A shy but cute girl that is the friendliest dog when she gets to know you.  Hook brings some pace to the team and when her head is in the game is a great little leader.  She is mother to Reaper, Mayhem and Rebel.

Race History:  White Oak Classic 2011, Beargrease Marathon 2011, Red River 2010, Race to the Sky 2011, Tustumena 200 2013, Iditarod 2015

Kaos

Position – Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Malamute

Born:  17th August 1998 – Auckland, New Zealand

This is the dog that it all started with.  He wasn’t our first but he was the first we started in the sport with.  Kaos was a one of a kind.  A small compact Malamute that was all heart.  He loved to run and had hard working ethics.  He was all Malamute, stacks of attitude and the dog we made all the mistakes with.  This dog taught us more then the other 50 put together that we have had since.  A very loyal friend that got us to where we are now.  This dog traveled the world with us, born on NZ he lived in 3 US states, The Yukon territories, Canada and was laid to rest in Alaska.

Race History:  Recreational races in New Zealand

Passed 31st August 2012:  That once in a life time dog that left a huge whole.  Still remember you like it was yesterday.

Karbon

Position: Team Dog

Breed: Siberian Husky
Born: 28th October 2016 – New Zealand

The devils child!  Karbon is a super high energy Siberian that has stacks of attitude.  She is the smallest Siberian we have but out does all the rest with attitude.  This dog is very cool, has a high natural drive and just loves to run…..or annoy all the other dogs because it just can’t stay still.  It loves to cuddle to.  Karbon was bred by Jon and Sarah (Pawtrax Kennels). Karbon is mother to Vader and Solo.

Race History:  Recreational races throughout New Zealand

Kick

Position – Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  2007 – Togo, Minnesota

Kick took a few years to develop but when she hit four years old she found her own and became a key part of the team.  One of the stronger girls she has become a powerhouse in the team.  She is a low maintenance girl that just loves to run and gets the job done easily.  Out of harness she is a happy fun loving dog.

Race History: White Oak Classic 2010, UP 200 2010, Beargrease Marathon 2010, Tustumena 200 2013, Copper Basin 300 2012/2013/2016, Iditarod 2012/2013/2014/2015/2016, Yukon Quest 2014

Kirby

Position – Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  9th October 2015 – Willow, Alaska

A breeding between Skye (Mackey) x Kroc (King x Buser). Kirby is a second generation of our own breedings.  Like his two brothers and sister he had a slow start, but equally like them he has become one of the strongest dogs in the team. Kirby has also shown huge potential to be a strong leader with a little more work.  He isn’t shy like Finn and not as outgoing as Drager.  He however has a very affectionate side but just isn’t over the top in demanding it.  Kirby is another dog we are very excited about this season.

Koal

Position – Main Leader

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  2013– Togo, Minnesota

Koal is a monster, a big black boy that adds a huge amount of power and talent to the front end.  You ask Koal to go and there is no questioning, regardless of what’s in front of you. Where other dogs might think there are better ways through or around something, Koal will drive straight through.  So it pays to get your commands correct.  He is built like a bulldozer up front and knows how to use it. At the same time Koal is very laid back about life, nothing that happens around him phases him much and like all the guys he has his soft side as well.  Loves to nibble on your chin when you are cuddling him.

Pandora

Position:  Leader

Breed:  Alaskan Husky
Born: 2005 – Big Lake, Alaska

This girl is very different from our other Alaskans.  From the kennel of 4 times Iditarod champion Martin Buser, Pandora joined our race team in 2010 and ran numerous distances races.  She has also completed Iditarod once for Martin Buser.  She’s not what most would expect of a sled dog.  Small, often a little chubby, floppy eared and doesn’t look much like a husky…but don’t be fooled, this is the real deal and when in harness she gets the job done.  She is also a very capable leader.  Pandora is a very affectionate dog and likes nothing more then rolling over at your feet waiting for belly rubs.  Two of Pandora’s pups are now in our race team in Alaska. This sweet girl hung up her harness at the end of the 2015 season and moved to a great pet home in Cromwell.

R.I.P.

Position: Leader

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born: 2006 – Canada

This is our only Alaskan Husky from strong hound lines.  He looks a little different.  From the kennel of Champion sprint racer Buddy Streeper this dude is fast so best to keep a leash on this guy because when he goes he isn’t that easy to catch.  RIP hasn’t got a lot of race experience.  He has suffered from tendon issues that develop after long distance training.  However he is ideally suited for tours and is a very fun affectionate dog.  This guy can also lead and its best he stays upfront because at times his excitement gets the best of him and he feels the need to chew parts of the gang line.  You are gonna love this guy.

Racoon

Position: Team Dog

Breed: Siberian Husky
Born: 15th August 2006 – New Zealand

The friendliest sweetest little girl you can imagine.  Racoon will steel you heart and she also works great in the team.  Racoon is mother to Sepp, Libby and Eva. On retirement Racoon went back to life with her breeders Ray and Dianne Holiday.

Passed 18th Jan 2018: Farewell to a sweet little girl, one of our first Siberians.

Ramp

Position – Leader

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  2005 – Togo, Minnesota

Ramp is one of our originals.  He was dropped from Jamie Nelson’s race team due to breaking his toe.  It was questionable if Ramp would ever make the race team let alone become a distance dog.  After a year of rehab and a slow transition to the main team he became an integral part,  having finished numerous races including Iditarod.  A large strong boy with the most affectionate attitude.  This boy can do no wrong.  Ramp is father to four of our other dogs, three who currently are still in Alaska as part of our race team. When ramp retired he lived up at the house free roaming the property.

Race History:  White Oak Classic 2010, Beargrease Marathon 2010/2011, Red River 2010, Race to the Sky 2011, Copper Basin 300 2012/2013, Tustemina 200 2013, Iditarod 2012/2013/2014/2015, Yukon Quest 2014

Passed 14th Dec 2017 – After a lengthy battle with congestive heart failure our boy went to sleep on his own terms.  Even though we know his time was short Ramp was a hard loss.

Reaper

Position – Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  2012 – Willow, Alaska

Reaper is the spitting image of his dad Tackle.  He also has a very similar personality.  Tackle was a high energy dog that had a lot of attitude that he channeled into running to become one of our key dogs before we unexpectedly lost him in 2013.  Reaper is turning out to be very similar and seems a natural in harness.  A very affectionate happy dog that can’t stand still, lots of energy.

Rebel

Position – Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky

Born:  2012 – Willow, Alaska

Passed 12th November 2015 – A very sweet little girl that we lost way to young.

Ridge

Position: Leader

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  2014 – Togo, Minnesota

Ridge is brother to Ledge and Summit.  Bred, raised and trained by Jamie Nelson this boy catches your eye.  A big black dog that has an impressive build and an awesome coat to show it off.  He is not only a handsome guy but equally as impressive in harness punching some serious power into any team he is part of and is also turning into a very nice leader.  Ridge has a huge personality to go with it all, a very fun dog that throws himself around with excitement anytime you decide to pay him a visit.  Not to sure if he knows how big he really is.  A really fun dog that will become something very special.

Rogue

Position: Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Malamute
Born: 29 December 2003 – Christchurch, New Zealand

Rogue was out of a breeding from our girl Voodoo.  She was sister to Maximus and a very special dog to us.  She ran recreationally in NZ before moving to the US with us.  Living in Atlanta then moving to northern Minnesota where she would accumulate thousands of training miles with our race team.  She would win her US Sled Dog Excellence title requiring a dog to complete 3 x 60mile runs non stop. From there she moved to Atlin, Canada and then Willow, Alaska before returning to NZ to join the tours.  Her best friend was always her mother until she passed at the age of 16.  Rogue had a very special temperament for a malamute, not really fussed about other dogs and lived free up at the house, free roaming the property all day and mingling with whatever dogs where around.  She had a great working temperament as well and was our nicest moving malamute.  She also had the sweetest nature, know as Little Girl she held a very special place in our heart.  She sadly developed a brain tumour which took away her ability to manage her body, but you could see she was still there inside and tried so hard.

Passed on 1st August 2016: Rest easy little girl, you will always be with us.

Run

Position – Main Leader

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  2007 – Togo, Minnesota

This is our main man, an outstanding all round dog and our most reliable leader.  Run thrives taking charge of the front end and loves nothing more then being up there on his own.  There is nothing this dog can’t work through on the trail and when things get difficult he is always the goto dog. He is a lovable high energy dog that can’t stand still, always on the go.  Its a privilege to share the trail with a dog of this calibre.

Sam

Position – Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  October 2013 – Togo, Minnesota

Sam is a very unique dog, to be honest we have never met anything like Sam. Sam was bred and raised by Jamie Nelson, she might question at times if she wants to lay claim to this guy.  The biggest thing we learnt when we started running Alaskan Huskies is not to judge a book by its cover.  When it comes to Sam it couldnt be more true.  A medium sized powerfully built Alaskan that sits at his house with his floppy tipped ears that is struggling to contain his excitment.  But he will, only just, he comes across like a labrador at the beach siting there waiting for you to through his ball….over and over.  That excitment becomes harder to control when the harness is introduced and the closer it gets to the action it just starts to loose itself and the patient part of Sam fizzles into an uncontrolable beast.  Sam injects power into the team, power which he is still learning to manage.  He has a huge personality and some of this can be attributed to the fact that Sam realy missed out uptsairs, if there was a IQ test to become a sled dog then Sam realy would have missed out on his calling.  I doudt Sam knows why he has to do things the way he does, but he is good at it and loves it. Sam is awesome!

Scenic

Position – Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  2008 – Togo, Minnesota

Scenic is another realy talented girl, she is one of the smaller girls but just a natural in harness with great work ethics.  Another super happy, lovable dog with a great working attitude.  When it comes to people Scenic is a bit of a stalker, just cant get enough of them.  But don’t be fooled this little girl has stacks of attitude.

Scotch

Position: Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born: 2001 – Togo, Minnesota

This boy is the real deal.  The granddad of the team, Scotch, even at 12, is still a very strong sled dog.  This guy has an impressive resume.  He has 5 Iditarod finishes all of which where with 2011 Iditarod Champion John Baker, who holds the most top 10 finishes.  A very noble, well mannered dog who can’t help but impress.  A large dog with a very heavy black coat, he has been nicknamed “The Timber Wolf” as he could be mistaken for one.  It’s not often you get the privilege to be in the presence of an animal like this.  He is a very special dog to us.

Race History:  Numerous races across the lower 48 and Alaska including 5 Iditarods

Passed 18th August 2016 – You lived a fuller life then most other dogs and left behind a legacy. We still see you as the foundation of our team.

Scout

Position – Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  11 April 2016– Willow, Alaska

A breeding between Grin (Nelson) x Bolt (Nelson). Scout is a first generation of our own breedings. Scout is a bit of a wild child, a very affectionate dog but is a little crazy.  Simple tasks are not always that simple with Scout as it wiggles, curls up into a ball and generally knows how to make things a little difficult.  However her wild side is starting to be channeled nicely into her work in harness.  Scout has had a very strong season for a young dog and is showing huge potential. A really fun dog that we are very excited about for the future, Scout will no doubt be a key dog going forward.

What can I say beside she’s mad.  Just one crazy little dog.  She’s noisy, full of energy and mischief.  This little girl is a lot of fun.  Loves to run and doesn’t mind telling her neighbor off if they’re holding her back.  She has some very odd behaviors that can’t help but make you laugh.  Often she will perch on her head when you approach her, but she will let you know about it when you decide to leave.  Sonic has raced throughout North America and been a key part of the team as well as being a very good leader.  You can’t help but have fun with this girl.  Just keep an eye on her…she can be naughty.

Sprite was given to us at 8 years old along with her brother Scotch.  She had completed 5 Iditarod’s as part of John Bakers team.  She came back to Minnesota and became a key part of the yearling team we where training at the time.  Her and her brother provided some stability to our team and Sprite was a solid girl in lead.  She was a lovely affectionate girl, she had a serious woolly coat on her and she would zip around her circle playing with you and eventually settle for sitting on your feet for cuddles.

Born: December 2006 – Palmerston North, New Zealand

This dude is 100% Malamute.  Big, powerful and a monster.  Stryker is full on in everything whether it’s in harness pulling a sled, playing with his horse ball or having cuddles.  Your first response may be fear….don’t worry most are initially a bit taken back by him, but this guy is the friendliest big guy you could ever meet. He loves people so much that some times he gets a little vocal about it.  Bring him inside and he becomes an angel.   Stryker has his American Sled Dog Excellence title.

Position – Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  2007 – Togo, Minnesota

Brother to Block and Hook.  Tackle started as a shy dog who quickly turned into one of our first pick team members .  There was no shortage of attitude in this dog.  Tackle shined in the 2013 Iditarod, he was phenomenal, relentless work ethics and had a happy positive attitude throughout.  In Swing he would drag the team around before the leaders would have the chance to respond.  He joined the ranks of our best dogs.  Out of harness he was a cheeky fun dog once he got to know you.  Loved nothing more then having some rough playtime but then would jump in your arms for affection.

Taizer is the oldest dog in the team, but this year she is the backbone for what is predominately a young and inexperienced team.  She is a gifted dog that has finished every race she has ever started and finished them all easily.  She now has six 1000 mile finishes including back to back finishes in the Yukon Quest and Iditarod in 2014.  A tough girl that has a crazy attitude.  Very happy, loving and the funniest behavior.  Nothing gets Taizer down and she can drive you crazy at times trying to do the simplest things as she thinks everything is a game. This year she will over take her parents in 1000mile finishes, her dad “Scotch” had five and her mum “Becky” had six. After this season Taizer will retire to the tours in New Zealand.

Mother to Rogue and Maximus.  Our third Malamute, Voodoo was brought into our lives when we suddenly lost our first girl Mishka..  She was one stubborn little girl.  But she quickly won us over and became a huge part of our lives.  She spent most her time with her best friend Kaos.  Voodoo was a big girl, a little lazy when it came to being in harness but she made up for that in so many other ways.  A very laid back Malamute that just sat back and took the world in, she loved people but was also very independent.  She was one of those dogs that knew exactly where she was in life, what she wanted and how it would be done, but all in a very subtle way.  Her daughter Rogue adored her.

Winnie

Position: Main Leader

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born: 2006 – Togo, Minnesota

This is just a cool little girl.  She was one of our first,  heavily involved in our race team in the earlier days running mid distance races in the lower 48.  Winnie is a great little leader, but feet issues held her back from running long distance.  She can be a little shy at first, but is such a sweet dog.  Get to know Winnie and she will be a favorite.  Her best friend is Merlin and you will often find her spending her days hanging out with him.  They used to lead together and Winnie has always had a soft spot for him.
