Meet the Team

We take pride in running a kennel where dog care comes first as does ensuring the dogs enjoy every aspect of what they do

We have over 70 dogs split between New Zealand and North America.  Our race team in north America are all Alaskan Huskies and our Touring dogs in New Zealand are a mixture of Alaskan Huskies, Siberian Huskies and a couple of Alaskan Malamutes.  When our North American race dogs retire they make the long trip to New Zealand to join the tours.

Block

Position – Main Leader

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  2007 – Togo, Minnesota

Block is by far our most powerful dog.  Just a monster in harness who knows nothing less then giving it his all.  Block has been a key dog over the years but in the 2012 Iditarod he stood out running single lead for nearly 500miles bringing the team across the line in Nome.  Its hard to believe how far Block has come.  As a puppy he was shy, nowadays he is a very confident affectionate dog and guaranteed starter.

Race History:  White Oak Classic 2009, Wolftrack Classic 2009, UP 200 2010, Beargrease Mid Distance 2009, Beargrease Marathon 2010/2011, Red River 2010, Race to the Sky 2011, Copper Basin 300 2012/2013, Norther Lights 300 2016, Iditarod 2012/2013/2014/2015, Yukon Quest 2014

Breaker

Position: Team Dog

Breed: Siberian Husky
Born: 2006 – New Zealand

Breaker is a lovely big Siberian Husky.  This guy is the friendliest dog around.  Loves his cuddles and the sweetest personality.  Breaker is a dog you just can help but love.  He is Racoons brother.

Dodge

Position: Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born: 2007 – Togo, Minnesota

A very old style Alaskan Husky with a lovey friendly nature about her.  Dodge is a strong girl with affectionate attitude.  She has raced throughout the lower 48 as well as run Iditarod and Yukon Quest.  All the dogs tend to get on with Dodge and she rarely does anything wrong, just a very well behaved, good mannered girl. Dodge came to NZ to join the tours in 2016.

Race History: White Oak Classic 2010/2011, Beargrease Marathon 2010, UP200 2010, Copper Basin 300 2012, Iditarod 2013/2014, Yukon Quest 2014

Passed 13th May 2018 – A beautiful girl who we lost so unexpectedly.

Dora

Position: Leader

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born: 2007 – Togo, Minnesota

Dora is one of those dogs that people tend to overlook.  She is small and very slender.  Not what a lot of people expect to see in a sled dog.  But if there is one thing we have learned, it is not to judge these dogs by their size or appearance.  This girl will be up there with the best of them.  Dora has led the team through deep snow, through stormy mountain passes, and terrain many dogs twice her size would struggle in.  She is a tough little girl that is a great leader and has run numerous races including Iditarod.  Dora can be a little shy at times but not when in harness.  A very cute little girl that has a very sweet side.

Race History: Beargrease Marathon 2010, Red River 2010, Iditarod 2012

Media & Film: Canada goose “Out There”

Eva

Position: Leader

Breed: Siberian Husky
Born: 2009 – New Zealand

Eva is sister to Libby, Sepp and Racoon.  She is another very sweet girl, she can go a little unnoticed at times because she just gets on with what she has to do.  Another dog you can’t help but love.

Race History: recreational races around NZ.

Media & Film: Canada Goose “Out There”, North Face, PolarSeal, BMW

Fish

Position: Leader

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born: 2008 – Fairbanks, Alaska

Fish came from the kennel of Lance Mackey, the only 4 time Yukon Quest and Iditarod Champion.  Fish is one of our smaller boys who just moves beautifully in harness.  Seems to glide across the ground.  Fish is a pretty intense little guy with some funny quirky behaviors.  At the same time Fish loves nothing more then a belly rub.

Media & Film: Canada Goose “Out There”

Grin

Position – Leader

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  2007 – Togo, Minnesota

This girl is all attitude, not shy to take charge and let other dogs know where they fit it.   Grin is a beautiful loving dog that has had some standout performances over the years.  The other dogs know where they stand with her and often Grin is the one put in to let younger dogs know what they can and can’t get away with.  When on fire she is one beautiful running dog.

Race History: White Oak Classic 2009, Race to the Sky 2011, Beargrease Marathon 2010, Tustumena 200 2013, Copper Basin 300 2012/2013, Iditarod 2012/2015

Hatchet

Position: Main Leader

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  2007 – Togo, Minnesota

One of the biggest boys in our race team and what makes Hatchet stand out is his stunning jet black coat.  This is one cool dude, very laid back personality but he knows when to turn it on and become one of the standout dogs.  In lead Hatchet is phenomenal and has been a main part of our front end for the last few years.  This guys has an awesome personality, very loving but also has a very stubborn streak where he will generally do it his way unless you can convince him otherwise, which sometimes comes with some resistance.

Race History:  White Oak Classic 2010/2011, UP 200 2010, Beargrease Marathon 2010/2011, Red River 2010, Race to the Sky 2011, Tustumena 200 2013, Copper Basin 300 2012/2013, Iditarod 2012/2013/2014/2015, Yukon Quest 2014

Hitch

Position – Leader / Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  2007 – Togo, Minnesota

This is one wild animal.  Hitch also know as “High Speed” is one high energy dog that does everything full on.  She is also a little mad and brings some serous attitude to the team.  She is always happy and comes in after every run squealing, wiggling around and throwing herself in the air and landing on the ground on her side.  It just can’t stay still.  When going forward she focuses that attitude and is a nice driving dog.  Hitch can also lead but her mischief side can get her into a little bit of trouble if left upfront to long.  A very cool happy dog.

Race History: White Oak Classic 2010, UP 200 2010, Beargrease Marathon 2010/2011, Red River 2010, Race to the Sky 2011, Tustumena 200 2013, Copper Basin 300 2012/2013, Iditarod 2012/2014/2015, Yukon Quest 2014

Kaos

Position – Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Malamute

Born:  17th August 1998 – Auckland, New Zealand

This is the dog that it all started with.  He wasn’t our first but he was the first we started in the sport with.  Kaos was a one of a kind.  A small compact Malamute that was all heart.  He loved to run and had hard working ethics.  He was all Malamute, stacks of attitude and the dog we made all the mistakes with.  This dog taught us more then the other 50 put together that we have had since.  A very loyal friend that got us to where we are now.  This dog traveled the world with us, born on NZ he lived in 3 US states, The Yukon territories, Canada and was laid to rest in Alaska.

Race History:  Recreational races in New Zealand

Passed 31st August 2012:  That once in a life time dog that left a huge whole.  Still remember you like it was yesterday.

Karbon

Position: Team Dog

Breed: Siberian Husky
Born: January 2016 – New Zealand

The devils child!  Karbon is a super high energy Siberian that has stacks of attitude.  She is the smallest Siberian we have but out does all the rest with attitude.  This dog is very cool, has a high natural drive and just loves to run…..or annoy all the other dogs because it just can’t stay still.  It loves to cuddle to.  Karbon was bred by Jon and Sarah (Pawtrax Kennels)

Race History:  Recreational races throughout New Zealand

Leap

Position: Leader

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  2007 – Togo, Minnesota

Leap is by far our biggest dog and probably most handsome.  He is a gentle giant with a very laid back personality.  A very powerful dog that can’t help but impress when in harness.  His jet back velvet-like coat and large stature are an eye catcher.  Leap has raced in both Alaska and the lower 48 states, as well as been part of one Iditarod.

Race History: White Oak Classic 2011, Beargrease Marathon 2011, T200 2013, Iditarod 2013

Media & Film: PolarSeal

Mayhem

Position – Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  2012 – Willow, Alaska

Mayhem is a big floppy eared boy that takes after his uncle Block, one of our main leaders.  Mayhem is son to Hook and Tackle who we unexpectedly lost in 2013.  He is a happy fun dog that is settling nicely into training.

Passed 22nd January 2017 – A big cuddly guy that was lost well before his time. Will miss you dearly.

McKenzie

Position: Leader

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born: 2007 – Togo, Minnesota

A smaller girl with a cheeky happy attitude.  Mckenzie is a very hardheaded, but fun spirited dog who has been part of numerous races with our main team.  She can pretty much run in any position within the teams as well as lead.

Race History: White Oak Classic 2010, Beargrease Marathon 2010

Merlin

Position: Leader

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  2006 – Togo, Minnesota

This is a really special dog to us.  Merlin was the main man in our race team our first few seasons in North America.  He was just a star.  A phenomenal distance leader that just took control and delivered.  Merlin has run numerous distance races across the lower 48 and in Alaska, including Iditarod twice. A beautiful blue eyed Alaskan Husky with a very loving attitude and endless drive when in harness.  Merlin was the start of our team in North America and has been brought back to NZ to once again be the backbone of our adventures.

Race History:  White Oak Classic 2009/2010/2011, Beargrease Mid Distance 2009, Wolf Track Classic 2009, UP 200 2010, Beargrease Marathon 2010/2011, Red River 2010, Race to the Sky 2011, Tustumena 200 2013, Copper Basin 300 2012/2013, Iditarod 2012/2013

Race History: Recreational Races throughout New Zealand

Pandora

Position:  Leader

Breed:  Alaskan Husky
Born: 2005 – Big Lake, Alaska

This girl is very different from our other Alaskans.  From the kennel of 4 times Iditarod champion Martin Buser, Pandora joined our race team in 2010 and ran numerous distances races.  She has also completed Iditarod once for Martin Buser.  She’s not what most would expect of a sled dog.  Small, often a little chubby, floppy eared and doesn’t look much like a husky…but don’t be fooled, this is the real deal and when in harness she gets the job done.  She is also a very capable leader.  Pandora is a very affectionate dog and likes nothing more then rolling over at your feet waiting for belly rubs.  Two of Pandora’s pups are now in our race team in Alaska.

Race History:  White Oak Classic 2010/2011, Beargrease Marathon 2010, Red River 2010,  Iditarod 2006 and numerous other Alaskan races.

Retired:  This sweet girl hung up her harness at the end of the 2015 season and now has a great pet home in Cromwell.

R.I.P.

Position: Leader

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born: 2006 – Canada

This is our only Alaskan Husky from strong hound lines.  He looks a little different.  From the kennel of Champion sprint racer Buddy Streeper this dude is fast so best to keep a leash on this guy because when he goes he isn’t that easy to catch.  RIP hasn’t got a lot of race experience.  He has suffered from tendon issues that develop after long distance training.  However he is ideally suited for tours and is a very fun affectionate dog.  This guy can also lead and its best he stays upfront because at times his excitement gets the best of him and he feels the need to chew parts of the gang line.  You are gonna love this guy.

Rebel

Position – Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky

Born:  2012 – Willow, Alaska

Rebel takes after her mother Hook.  She looks very similar and is shy much like Hook used to be.  Behind the shyness is a sweet fun girl and with time she will turn into a confident dog.  Rebel has fit into the team well and is showing a lot of potential.

Passed 12th November 2015 – A very sweet little girl that we lost way to young.

Scotch

Position: Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born: 2001 – Togo, Minnesota

This boy is the real deal.  The granddad of the team, Scotch, even at 12, is still a very strong sled dog.  This guy has an impressive resume.  He has 5 Iditarod finishes all of which where with 2011 Iditarod Champion John Baker, who holds the most top 10 finishes.  A very noble, well mannered dog who can’t help but impress.  A large dog with a very heavy black coat, he has been nicknamed “The Timber Wolf” as he could be mistaken for one.  It’s not often you get the privilege to be in the presence of an animal like this.  He is a very special dog to us.

Race History:  Numerous races across the lower 48 and Alaska including 5 Iditarods

Passed 18th August 2016 – You lived a fuller life then most other dogs and left behind a legacy. We still see you as the foundation of our team.

Sepp

Position: Leader

Breed: Siberian Husky

Born: 2009 – New Zealand

Sepp is a beautiful blue eyed Siberian Husky.  He can be a little shy at first but is a very friendly dog.  Very nice leader and hard working dog.  Sepp is brother to Eva and Libby.

Race History: Recreational Races throughout New Zealand

Skye

Position – Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  2008 – Fairbanks, Alaska

Skye is one of our Lance Mackey dogs, a pretty Zorro daughter this girl is the biggest girl in our team with an awesome happy go lucky attitude.  Skye is a fun dog to be around and regardless of what obstacles she faces she is always happy and ready to go and her attitude tends to rub off on other dogs around her.  A very cool dog to have as part of the team.

Race History:  Beargrease Marathon 2011, Copper Basin 300 2012, Tustemina 200 2013, Iditarod 2013

Sprite

Position – Leader

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  2001 – Togo, Minnesota

Sprite was given to us at 8 years old along with her brother Scotch.  She had completed 5 Iditarod’s as part of John Bakers team.  She came back to Minnesota and became a key part of the yearling team we where training at the time.  Her and her brother provided some stability to our team and Sprite was a solid girl in lead.  She was a lovely affectionate girl, she had a serious woolly coat on her and she would zip around her circle playing with you and eventually settle for sitting on your feet for cuddles.

Race History:  5 x Iditarods, Beargrease Mid distance 2009, Wolf track Classic 2009, White Oak 2009.

Passed 15th December 2012:  One of the foundation dogs of the team we have today.  A great little girl that could never be replaced.

Stryker

Position: Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Malamute
Born: 2006 – Palmerston North, New Zealand

This dude is 100% Malamute.  Big, powerful and a monster.  Stryker is full on in everything whether it’s in harness pulling a sled, playing with his horse ball or having cuddles.  Your first response may be fear….don’t worry most are initially a bit taken back by him, but this guy is the friendliest big guy you could ever meet. He loves people so much that some times he gets a little vocal about it.  Bring him inside and he becomes an angel.   Stryker has his American Sled Dog Excellence title.

Tackle

Position – Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:  2007 – Togo, Minnesota

Brother to Block and Hook.  Tackle started as a shy dog who quickly turned into one of our first pick team members .  There was no shortage of attitude in this dog.  Tackle shined in the 2013 Iditarod, he was phenomenal, relentless work ethics and had a happy positive attitude throughout.  In Swing he would drag the team around before the leaders would have the chance to respond.  He joined the ranks of our best dogs.  Out of harness he was a cheeky fun dog once he got to know you.  Loved nothing more then having some rough playtime but then would jump in your arms for affection.

Race History:  White Oak Classic 2011, Beargrease Marathon 2011, Red River 2010, Race to the Sky 2011, Tustumena 200, Copper Basin 2012/2013, Iditarod 2012/2013

Passed 30th Dec 2013:  A sudden and unexpected loss of one of our best.  Also one of those dogs that had a very special place in our hearts.

Tinka

Position – Team Dog

Breed: Alaskan Malamute
Born:  20 September 2000 – Palmerston North, New Zealand

We took care of Tinka for friends when she was only 6 months old, we feel in love with her and we ended up managing to keep her.  She was a fun girl, a little crazy but always happy with lots of energy.  She loved to run in harness and was a great little sled dog.

Race History:  Recreational races in New Zealand

Passed 5th March 2013:  Really miss this crazy little girl.

Tumble

Position: Leader

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born:
2007 – Togo, Minnesota

If you get this dog you better be prepared.  This is one high energy dog, who absolutely loves to run and has some of the funniest quirky behavior.  She will keep you laughing for the whole ride.  She is also probably one of our most affectionate sled dogs.  If you have all day she wouldn’t mind if you spend it cuddling her.  Otherwise best you run her.  She looks a lot like a greyhound and runs just like one.  Tumble is one of Ramps daughters and has raced in North America.  She can also lead.

Race History: White Oak Classic 2009, Beargrease Marathon 2010

Voodoo

Position – The House

Breed: Alaskan Malamute
Born:  February 1999 – Christchurch, New Zealand

Mother to Rogue and Maximus.  Our third Malamute, Voodoo was brought into our lives when we suddenly lost our first girl Mishka..  She was one stubborn little girl.  But she quickly won us over and became a huge part of our lives.  She spent most her time with her best friend Kaos.  Voodoo was a big girl, a little lazy when it came to being in harness but she made up for that in so many other ways.  A very laid back Malamute that just sat back and took the world in, she loved people but was also very independent.  She was one of those dogs that knew exactly where she was in life, what she wanted and how it would be done, but all in a very subtle way.  Her daughter Rogue adored her.

Race History:  Recreational races in New Zealand

Passed 6th December 2014:  A very special girl that was part of our foundation.  If only they could all live long lives like she did. Two months short of 16.

Winnie

Position: Main Leader

Breed: Alaskan Husky
Born: 2006 – Togo, Minnesota

This is just a cool little girl.  She was one of our first,  heavily involved in our race team in the earlier days running mid distance races in the lower 48.  Winnie is a great little leader, but feet issues held her back from running long distance.  She can be a little shy at first, but is such a sweet dog.  Get to know Winnie and she will be a favorite.  Her best friend is Merlin and you will often find her spending her days hanging out with him.  They used to lead together and Winnie has always had a soft spot for him.

Race History: White Oak Classic 2009
